As a Sales Engineer with PenTeleData, you will be the technical implementation resource for our customers who have purchased Broadband Cable Service to be installed or upgraded. You will interact daily with both commercial customers and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2-4 Years of experience in enterprise or service provider environments
  • CCENT or equivalent network related certifications
  • Ability to present to groups of people

The technical, or “hard skills” we need run the gamut:

  • Some experience with Cisco CLI (IOS, XE, XR) languages and WebUIs (ASDM, CCP)
  • Basic Networking Knowledge, including understanding of the TCP/IP protocols, subnetting and IPv6
  • Basic understanding of IP routing (Static and BGP)
  • Some understanding of how an HFC network operates from the data side
  • Familiarity with how DHCP works
  • Ability to present facts and ideas in a logical understandable sequence  - orally and written
  • Ability to remain technical while using simple terms with non-technical customers
  • Ability to self-motivate and operate autonomously with little supervision

The non-technical, or “soft skills” needed include:

  • Hi-level Project Management Skills - for customer turn-ups and changes
  • Exceptional Customer Service Skills
  • Outstanding Troubleshooting Skills –thinking logically through problems
  • Ability to document findings accurately and explain them with a working knowledge
  • Ability to follow procedures and processes but still remain flexible for the times when exceptional cases occur

Preferred Skills –  “nice-to-have” but definitely not required:

  • Understanding NAT, how to configure it on Cisco devices and effectively explain it to customers; includes Static and Dynamic NAT
  • Basic understanding of ACLs, ASA firewalls and building VPN tunnels
