Shift: Mon/Wed/Fri 8AM-4PM and Tues/Thurs 1AM-9AM (as needed for on-call week)
Pay Rate: $30-40,000 Annual based on education and experience

A Network Field Technician is needed to install, modify and maintain core and node equipment, as well as, equipment purchased by customers for access to PTD's high-speed network.
As PTD’s network spans more than half the state of Pennsylvania plus locations in New York and New Jersey, a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. Travel to these various points of presence will be on an as needed basis via company provided vehicle. The ability to work night-shift on Tuesdays and Thursdays and overtime as required are necessary. Training and tools will be provided. Once training is complete, the successful candidate will be assigned to the rotating on call schedule. Field Technicians work closely with various departments and interface with Telco’s and other third parties.
Some of the general responsibilities of the Network Field Technician include:

  • Responding to Core and Customer issues in a timely fashion as instructed by the NCC or other PTD Departments
  • Providing a high level of technical understanding for PTD's Core and customer networks
  • Installing Cable and Equipment as required within core and customer locations
  • Mentoring other employees as required
  • Interacting with Telco's and other third parties as needed in the resolution of installation/repair problems
  • Effectively communicating with customers and other parties as needed the status and resolution of any installation/repair problems
  • Returning defective equipment promptly for testing and repairing
  • Effectively using a laptop and other test equipment as needed to assist in resolution of equipment difficulties

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Telecommunications, electronics/electrical trade school, or 2+ years’ experience working in electronics, communication and computer industry
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
  • Data transmission technology knowledge i.e.: Fiber optics, Ethernet, telephony T1,T3, OC3,OC12
  • Knowledge and or experience with Cisco Products
  • The ability to work varied hours
  • The ability to be on call during off work hours on a rotating basis
  • The ability to use small hand tools
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Exceptional Customer and Communication Skills a must
  • Experience with customer premise wiring and POTS line phone troubleshooting
  • Understanding the interconnection of telecommunication equipment and business telephones
  • Knowledge of special circuits such as PRI, T1, ISDN signaling, SIP, and VoIP, as well as, basic setup and demarcation points
  • LAN/WAN experience
  • Excellent Troubleshooting Skills
  • Understanding of the technology behind routers, hubs, bridges, CSU/DSU's, switches and modems
  • Electronic/Electrical technical understanding
